Difficult-access stump removal in Auckland
Narrow gates, steps and raised garden beds. Our portable Alpine Magnum reaches stumps larger machines can’t.
What is difficult access?
Many Auckland sections have stumps that a standard grinder can’t reach, such as up a flight of steps, through a narrow side gate or inside a raised garden bed. We specialise in these jobs. Our portable Alpine Magnum weighs about 40kg and can be lifted into position by hand, so stumps that were once out of reach can be ground out without bringing a large machine onto your section.
Who it’s for
- Properties where the stump can only be reached by stairs or steep paths
- Back gardens reached through a narrow gate or side passage
- Stumps in raised garden beds, behind retaining walls or among established plants
- Anyone who has been told a stump can’t be reached by other grinders

How it works
Describe the route to the stump
Measure the narrowest point on the way in and mention any stairs, slopes, gates or raised beds. Photos emailed to us help too.
We choose the right machine
If a larger machine can’t get in, the portable grinder is carried in by hand. We confirm the approach and give you a fixed quote before we start.
Grind and tidy up
We grind the stump out, rake the mulch back into the hole and leave the area ready for your next step.

Common questions about difficult access
Can stump grinding be done in a small backyard or with narrow access?
Yes, this is our speciality. Our portable Alpine Magnum weighs about 40kg, so it can be carried through narrow gates, up and down stairs and into raised garden beds where larger machines can’t go. It still handles large stumps. When you ask for a quote, tell us the narrowest point on the way to the stump.
How do I prepare my property for stump grinding?
Clear a path to the stump and move pot plants, outdoor furniture or vehicles out of the way. Let us know about any underground pipes, cables or irrigation near the stump, and point out every stump you want removed. Keep pets and children inside while the machine is running. You don’t need to be home while we work.
What about underground pipes and cables?
Most service pipes are well below normal grinding depth, and we take as much care as possible. We do rely on the property owner’s knowledge of where pipes and cables run, so please tell us about anything near the stump before we start.
Do I need to be home while you work?
No. Our machinery is petrol powered and the work can be done without you being there. Just make sure we can get to the stump and know about any underground services.
Where we work
We focus on Auckland’s Eastern Bays and East Auckland, and work across greater Auckland.
